Hi there – thank you for being here.

My name is Alison and I am 31 years old. I am incredibly passionate about working with people through Returning To You Yoga and am honoured to have worked with a multitude of incredible individuals so far through this social enterprise.
A little about my professional background first up. I have a BA Honours English Literature and Educational Studies Degree and an MA in Journalism, I am also a qualified Trauma Sensitive Yoga & Pilates Teacher, as well as a children’s counsellor, an experienced copywriter, editor and digital marketer. I have gained experience across a plethora of industries since graduating in 2011 and have had the pleasure of working in the Finance, Construction, Hospitality, Healthcare, Technology, Rail and Wellbeing sectors throughout my career.
I have worked as the Assistant Editor and Editor of multiple UK based trade magazines, spent time working as a copywriter and content editor at large European tech firms and freelanced for lifestyle magazines across the country.
I am a fully insured member of Yoga Alliance Professionals (YAP) and a graduate of Registered Yoga School (RYS) Saliya Life Institute with the internationally recognised Yoga Alliance.
Through Returning To You Yoga I work with clients internationally online and in person.
Returning To You Yoga was founded in February 2020 after I completed my Trauma Sensitive Yoga and Pilates Teacher Training course with Saliya Life Institute on the beautiful Thai island of Koh Phangan.
My personal yoga journey began in 2016 after a bereavement. Having practiced for four years, during a year of world travel I realised I wanted to teach yoga therapeutically to help others process and reconnect.
My experiences on the course were life changing. It helped me on every level and allowed me to connect to myself in a beautiful way. It gave me perspective, clarity and vision.
Since beginning Returning To You Yoga (RTYY) school as a primarily movement based enterprise working with adults, it has evolved in a beautiful way.
I have worked with adults on a one to one basis, as well as in group settings, to help them relax, ease tension, lower stress levels and reconnect to themselves, whilst developing a beautiful self care practice using yoga and pilates .
Prior to establishing RTYY I worked as a child’s counsellor for the NSPCC’s Childline and a community educator for Soweto Youth Initiative in the slums of Nairobi and have always been passionate about aiding their development in a way that allows them to have fun and be themselves.
I now work with children and young people delivering play based movement and education sessions to aid holistic development through storytelling and creative play. Since 2020 I have worked one to one with little ones online and in person – from a gorgeous five year old yogi healing from an accident, to a mum and toddler seeking to bond together and learn about animals, to group play yoga sessions with a whole team of yogi’s ready to move and expand their understanding.
Sessions are varied, energetic and incredibly beautiful to be a part of, for me and the families involved.
With an extensive background in journalism, editing, marketing and copywriting I now work with clients internationally as a contract writer and freelancer – including a Japanese language school aiding their online presence through blogging, creative copywriting and academic writing.
There are many strings to my bow and I am so happy to be in a place where as I evolve I am able to improve and expand the meaningful work I do here at Returning To You Yoga. Personal and professional development is important to me and I am continually working hard to learn and grow.
A little about me as a person before I go. I play the ukele and am always learning new songs and singing my heart out. I love musicals and The Sound of Music is one of my favourite films. Being outdoors is a passion and finding new walking routes to explore in the countryside is something I relish. I like to laugh and have fun. I have a big heart. I am an optimist and a glass half full type of lady. I value my movement and meditation practice and it is a dedication I commit to daily – I practice what I preach and don’t just talk the talk.
Thank you so much for reading my ‘About Me’ and if you have any questions then don’t hesitate to get in touch and let’s work together.
Have a lovely day.
Alison
